Name: Whitney James
Blog & Business: Whitney Nic James & Fearless Woman, IAM
When did you launch your business/blog?
I launched my blog (whitneynicjames.com) in 2011 and started Fearless Woman, I AM in mid-2015.
What inspired you to pursue your dreams and begin creating the life you want?
I was inspired by my family, my passion for writing and connecting with like-minded women. I was also inspired to pursue my dreams once I realized my passion and purpose in life.
How does your business line up with your purpose in life?
My businesses are 100% aligned with my purpose, which is to motivate and inspire women to be stylish on a budget, while being positive and uplifting to others.
What do you enjoy most about living life on your own terms?
I enjoy the freedom of being myself, walking in my purpose and not apologizing for it. I know what I’m doing is what God wants and expects of me; that in itself has allowed me to become extremely comfortable with living life on my own terms.
Describe an a-ha moment.
I have so many, but the ah-ha moment that sticks out the most is when I re-read Purpose Driven Life for the 2nd time. Reading the book with an open mind and heart allowed me to understand things that I didn’t get the first time. I was able to connect the dots and allow the necessary life transformation to begin within me.
What has been your biggest challenge as a blogger or business owner?
My biggest challenge as a blogger and business owner was trying to do it all myself. I’m so passionate about my purpose and mission that at times, I get tunnel vision. I don’t see or realize that other people can help get me to where I want and need to be. Finally realizing that I do in fact need help in order to continue inspiring others and living a life of purpose has been a game changer. I can’t do it all myself – no one can and no one is expected to. We all need someone or somebodies to help us fulfill our purpose.
What keeps you motivated on days when you feel overwhelmed?
On days I feel overwhelmed, my faith, my husband and family keep me motivated and on track. My readers also help motivate me. I am truly grateful for their continued support.
What’s one thing that you makes you stand out from your peers?
One thing that makes me stand out is my heart. I genuinely care about the women I interact with on a daily basis, and people in general. Whatever I can do, be it a prayer, a conversation, an email, blog post or an event, I’m committed to uplifting and motivating women and those I come I interact with.
What’s your biggest fear? And how do you overcome your fears?
My biggest fear is not helping someone. Clearly, I’m a helper/fixer. I want to help and fix things for people, especially those I care about the most. This trait is a gift and a curse because sometimes I beat myself up if I can’t come up with a solution. However I’ve realized that as long as I do the best I can and my intentions are pure, that’s what matters. I can’t help and fix everyone and everything. Somethings are out of my control; that’s life.
What’s one lesson that you’ve learned on your journey to being free?
One lesson I’ve learned is everyone won’t understand or accept you or your purpose. That’s ok – it’s not for them. It’s for you and the people you’re supposed to help.
What are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of daring to be different, as well as my commitment to living my purpose driven life.
How do you support other women?
I support other women by cheering them on, uplifting them, making myself available to help when/if necessary, and most importantly by praying for them.
What does being free mean to you?
Being free means living life unapologetically with intention, purpose and passion.
What is your favorite affirmation or quote?
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. - Romans 8:28
