Name: Shavone Riggins
When did you start your business?
I have two businesses. GAD Digital is a full scale marketing business I co-founded in 2012. My most recent co-founding business Curlkalon Hair Collection started in November 2014
What triggered you to pursue your dreams and begin creating the life you want?
Becoming the co-founder of Curlkalon was not the hardest transition in creating a business, due to have been a co-founder of GAD Digital. I was trigged to be a business owner through my life experiences since starting at the age of 13 as a worker. As I grew older I wanted more and more flexibility in how I used my time and skills.
What do you enjoy most about living life on your own terms?
I most enjoy the experiences. My experiences have been great lessons in my life to push beyond what once “was” and to become all there is to be!
How are you living out your purpose?
I pin purpose to passion. I’m currently doing what I’m passionate about. I believe in the importance of being a positive example as a woman, mother, and business owner to touch and affect others in a positive way.
Describe an a-ha moment.
My life a-ha moment came to me in the mirror. It was a point in my life in where I looked around and didn’t like what was my external environment. I then realized that we are given this life to make it what we want it to be and at that moment I declared to use my God given power to “choose” in this life.
What does being free mean to you?
Free to me means free-spirit! When you take your God-given abilities and place them in a defining foundation of meaning and purpose nothing is more freeing to live freely!
What has been your biggest challenge pursuing your purpose?
The biggest challenge is always the transition phase of doing what you’ve always done to doing something “Big” that you’ve never done. There comes a time when things change and the level of comfort is diminishing. You can either step back to comfort or push through to the greater light. I chose the light.
What does your ideal day look like?
My ideal day is: Awaking before family to address myself in aligning my center and thoughts for the day. Then address the family with Dad to outline what the day entails. I then proceed with a cup of joe and began checking off business to-do’s. Rounding out the day with family dinner and quite time with nighttime preparation. Let’s do it again!
What’s one thing that you want people to know about you?
I’m a resource investigator! I read a lot and pay attention to what’s in front of me with a keen eye. I believe knowledge is the best tool that determines your personal and professional growth.
What is your biggest fear? And how do you overcome your fears?
Let me define fear. Fear is your imagination testing your faith. My greatest fear is leaving this place without reaching my greatest potential. To overcome my fear I declare to always putting 100% of my positive effort out to there have it reciprocated.
How do you stay encouraged?
To stay focus on the potential of a great life through my family, my friends and those I touch.
What are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of pushing beyond what I have seen, been through and declaring to be greater for myself and others.
How do you support other women?
I support other women by keeping an open hand and open line for communication that can create a forum for growth and support. It’s enough room for all of us!
