When did you start your blog/business?
Jamila Wellness LL launched March 1, 2014.
What triggered you to pursue your dreams and begin creating the life you want?
A long life, I have always felt fulfilled as I was helping others reach their goals. Then, I experienced a very dark period of depression and attempted suicide. Afterward, I was medicated. I hated that. I wanted to learn how to live a balanced life without the necessity of medication. I found a wonderful therapist and helped me put the pieces together. I wanted to help others as well. So I obtained my Bachelors and Masters degree in Clinical Social Work. I then set out to assist girls and women with their tough life transitions.
What do you enjoy most about living life on your own terms?
Not having to apologize lol!
How are you living out your purpose?
Day by day, I look for ways to bring light to women of all ages.
Describe an a-ha moment.
A few years ago, a friend and I were talking about our life goals. She said "I wish I could be more like you; you don't need a man to be happy. You just live your life." I always thought that everyone did that, living their lives. I think that's when the light went on for me that I can ____________ (fill in the blank).
What does being free mean to you?
Not being bound by anything. My past, my flaws, my looks, my mistakes, anything!
What has been your biggest challenge pursuing your purpose?
Breaking free of what other people thought I should be, what they wanted me to be, or what they tried to make me be.
What’s one thing that you want people to know about you or your business?
Above all, I want people to know that Cinnamon and Jamila Wellness want women to shine from within. You have a light, and it's there to guide someone else; let it shine!
What is your biggest fear? And how do you overcome your fears?
My biggest fear is that my soul might leave his earth without having fulfilled its purpose. I overcome that by giving my all every day and trusting God to guide me daily to fulfill what He has for me to do.
How do you stay encouraged?
A number of ways. I have a blessings jar. I keep touching text messages. I make sure I stay close to family and honest friends. I continuously seek connections with people who have similar mindsets as myself. It keeps me going.
What are you most proud of?
How do you support other women?
By being transparent. I believe that, by hiding our story, we don't help ourselves or anyone else. So I tell my story, and encourage other women to do the same.
What is your favorite affirmation or quote?
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
What exciting things do you have planned for 2015?
Continuing personal and professional growth, and building Jamila Wellness.
