“The secret of success is consistency of purpose” ~Benjamin Disraeli
When I read the quote above it immediately resonated with me and it's the inspiration for today's post. If you’ve been paying attention to my content on IG, you know I’ve been sharing a lot on the power of being consistent. I’m going to let you in on a little secret that I believe will shed some light on this topic and help you understand why you stop every goal or project you start.
Ok, here it goes…. The reason why you lack consistency is because you're not operating in your purpose.
For the past few years, I’ve been able to make huge strides in my personal and business life because I'm clear on my “why ” and what I’ve been created to do. I realize that there are a lot of women who are uncertain of their purpose and as a result they find themselves quitting everything they start.
Consistency + Purpose
Now I know what you’re thinking what does knowing my purpose in life have to do with me being inconsistent. Believe it or not, it has everything to do with it.
When you’re unclear about what you want and what you're supposed to be doing, you’ll find yourself in a continuous cycle of constantly starting over and never completing anything.
Due to your inconsistency and never being able to follow through you're left feeling...
Like a failure
If truth be told, you feel stuck and the life you're living is not what you thought it would be.
As I mentioned in the beginning of this post many women that I speak to don't know their purpose, so don’t feel like there’s something wrong with you.
That’s not the case at all. You’re perfectly fine. You simply need to realize what your purpose is and as a result, you’ll be more consistent in your life.
It’s time to dig deeper
I want to challenge you to dig deeper and discover what you were put on earth to do and what you feel your purpose is. I want you to think about how you want to show up in the world, otherwise, you’ll be in the exact same spot this time next year. And I don’t want that for you. I want you to focus on becoming the best version of yourself that you can be.
Now let me pause right here and say I don’t want you to feel overwhelmed if you have no clue at all what your purpose is or what you’re passionate about.
I created some free purpose worksheets to help you gain clarity in a more creative way.
Knowing your purpose in life shouldn’t be this big thing, it’s really not that deep. I think the problem is people overthink the process instead of taking the time to look within.
Your purpose isn’t something you have to go looking for it’s already in you so slow down and listen to your intuition aka your gut feeling.
If you’re at a total loss of what your purpose is or you can’t seem to think of anything that you’re passionate about, what are some things that you're interested in or would like to learn more about?
Starting a blog
Taking an art class
Learning how to line dance
Take a solo road trip
Start doing things that you're curious about until you discover the meaning and purpose of your life. As you tap into different things that interest you, doors will begin to open that will lead you to your purpose.
My path to purpose
I wasn’t always clear on what my purpose was and I felt stuck for many years trying to figure it out. I prayed and literally begged God, to show me my purpose so I could feel like my life had meaning.
But I was left with nothing and I felt like I was missing out on a secret that everyone else knew but me.
It wasn’t until I took the time to do the inner work that I started to gain insight and clarity on what I was put on earth to do. I don’t have it all figured out but I am clear on what I’m supposed to be doing that I’ll share with you shortly.
Often times people tend to avoid working on the areas that they’re dissatisfied with because it’s uncomfortable plus it’s easier to ignore it instead of doing the work.
Changing your life for the better isn't easy but if it was everyone would be doing it. I'm clear about my purpose and this is how I'm able to accomplish my goals because I understand what I’m working towards.
What I know for sure as it relates to my purpose
1. I’ve shared many times before that I had a very dysfunctional childhood growing up and I suffered from abandonment issues from both my parents but more so my mother.
It wasn’t until I went to counseling and got the help that I needed that I was able to heal from my past and stop blaming my parents for everything that wasn’t going right in my life. I now feel like it’s my responsibility to share my story to help others be free.
I know this to be true because whenever I speak at events I share small parts of my story and at the end I always have women come up to me thanking me for honesty and transparency. They also share how they now realize that they too need to deal with some issues from their past and discover their purpose.
Now think about this for a minute what if I kept my story all to myself and never shared my journey with others. I would be doing a disservice to the women I come in contact with and I would be preventing them from moving forward in their life.
2. I was created to be a light and to empower others to be free. What does that mean?
I 'm here to encourage, motivate and inspire women to get unstuck and be free to live life on their own terms.
The million dollar question that I get asked often, How did you know this was your purpose?
As I mentioned in #1, I was stuck for a long time, seventeen years to be exact because of the choices my mother and father made. I felt like I wasn’t good enough, I lacked confidence, I even felt unlovable. I can go on and on how their decisions impacted my life in a negative way.
It wasn’t until I made a choice that I wasn’t going to allow my past to define me. I decided that I had the power to shift the direction of my life and that’s exactly what I did.
I know from experience what it feels like to be stuck in your personal and work life and this is why I'm so passionate about helping women start the process of changing their life.
My purpose is to teach women just like you on how to get unstuck in order to be free to LIVE your life and not just exist in it. I know this because I’ve put in the work and I’m operating in the gifts that God instilled in me.
The way that I’m able to practice consistency in every area of my life is because I’m clear on my purpose and I understand that I have a responsibility to show up each day and share my purpose with the world.
