Empowered Women, Empower Women- The Power of Surrounding Yourself With Positive Women

It’s Women’s History Month and I think it’s fitting that we talk about the power of surrounding yourself with positive women. It's a beautiful thing when women can come together to support and inspire one another, it’s like a breath of fresh air.

This is the very reason why I created the BeFree Life Class (BFLC) which is a social space where positive energy flows freely and women are inspired, encouraged and motivated by other like-minded women. It’s for women who desire to “be free” --free to live, dream, create, and pursue the life she wants on her own terms.

A positive outlet where women can have conversations with substance that will challenge them to get out of their comfort zone and strive to be better.

The atmosphere is very laid back as if you’re chatting with your girlfriends where you can be free and just be. (at least for 3 hours anyway)

To answer this question simply, I needed it.

When I launched my business in February, 2014, I yearned to be connected with women who were on a similar journey.

I wanted to be around…

  • Women who desired more for their life and wanted a safe space to talk about their goals, ambitions, and purpose in life

  • Women who had dreams that they wanted to pursue and wasn’t afraid to share their fears about getting started

  • Women who were ready to shift their mindset so they can be free

  • Women that would push me to reach my next level

  • Women who have excelled in some area of their life and didn’t mind sharing their story to inspire others

Believe it or not I couldn’t find a group like this in my city and you know what they say when you can’t find what you need, create it.  And that’s exactly what I did.

Now let me point out that prior to launching my business, I was not the person you would see in front of people speaking and being vocal. However when you’re passionate about empowering women as much as I am, your purpose will push you out of your comfort zone.

I hosted my first BFLC in May 2014 and do you know 13 women showed up! I was nervous and excited all at the same time.

And what do you know I was right!  There were women in my community who needed a place to openly talk about what they were passionate about and how to discover their purpose in life.

Here’s what Amy of Brown Sugar Cake Co had to say...

This was the most positive space that I had been in for years that catered specifically to women. Women sharing, women encouraging, women believing, women smiling, women simply taking time out for themselves. I got more from that first class than I could have ever imagined.

Since the first BFLC, I’ve hosted 7 more and I've had the opportunity to meet some pretty amazing women in my city. Each meet up has a different theme and we’ve talked about a number of topics including, self care, natural hair, creating a healthy lifestyle and even had a vision board party.

My goal for each class is to inspire and motivate the ladies while encouraging them to take action so they can start to see positive changes in their life.

Hosting the BFLC has been a great way to grow my business and connect with my audience face to face. I’m a firm believer that as you grow your brand online you should also focus on building a local presence in your community.

I have two BIG goals for the BeFree Life Class…

  1. I would love to host my events in other cities

  2. I want to host a BeFree Life Class event at the Essence Festival

The BeFree Life Class isn't just about me, I spotlight other women in the community who are doing amazing things and allow them to use my platform. Depending on the venue, sometimes I even have vendors that are able to sell their products/services to a group of women that they wouldn't have normally reached.  It warms my heart to see women network with one another and start to build relationships outside of my events.

Now you may be reading this and saying to yourself, I don’t trust women or the women in my life are not supportive at all. I want you to think about why are you attracting these types of women in your life. Even though you've had a few bad experiences, it doesn’t mean that everyone is the same.

Set intentions on building a tribe of women that will support you on your journey. Find women that will celebrate when you win, encourage you when you’re down and push you to reach your goals.

And please do me a BIG favor, don’t ever repeat the negative statements that we’ve all heard about “how we are.”  Be an example of what you want to see in the world, trust me you’ll start attracting the type of women that you want to be connected to.

If you’re in Cleveland or surrounding areas, I would love for you to join me at the upcoming BeFree Life Class: Goals | Vision | Life which is a three (3) part series designed to help you create goals that align with your values so you can create a plan for your life.

Oh and if you’re not in the area but you still want to be connected with positive like minded women that will encourage you on your journey.
